Blank Rome Associate Rachel Sims will speak at Driven Inc.’s eDiscovery Speaker Series CLE Event, “GDPR—One Year Later,” being held Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 12:00 noon, in New York, New York.
On May 25, 2018, the European Union implemented the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). This broadly applied and sweeping regulation had immediate impact on the US legal landscape, creating challenges for data transfers for European data subjects. Or did it? Businesses were expected to implement new processes and procedures for handling data as well as ensuring the security and portability of Personal Data. Threats of massive fines and other enforcement actions loomed large before the change. So far, few fines have been issued and, of those, none have been the massive threatened enforcement actions. What happened?
Rachel and her co-presenters will discuss how the first year has looked, what can be expected in the next few years, and where data privacy is headed.
Topics covered include:
- A brief history of the competing data privacy regimes - and recent revelations which make this more important than ever;
- Looking back at a year of GDPR enforcement and engagement by European supervisory authorities; and
- GDPR, CCPA, and where Privacy may be headed.
