Estate and Gift Tax Planning During the Coronavirus Pandemic

New York State Bar Association

Live Online Webinar

Blank Rome Partners Sean R. Weissbart and Richard J. Miller Jr. will co-present the New York State Bar Association (“NYSBA”) Estate and Gift Tax Planning During the Coronavirus Pandemic program, being held Thursday, May 14, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., as a live online webinar.

The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in depreciated asset values and record-low interest rates at a time when estate and gift tax exemption amounts remain at record highs. Additionally, governor of New York has issued Executive Orders enabling individuals to sign estate planning documents while social distancing through virtual witnessing and notarizations. For many, this may be the perfect opportunity for estate planning.

Sean and Rich will discuss why now is the ideal time to make tax-free gifts by taking advantage of depreciated asset values that are likely to rebound and to successfully create Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts and enter into intra-family loans with record-low interest rates. The session will also cover cutting-edge strategies to make completed gifts while retaining the possibility of getting assets back in the future based on changing liquidity needs. Finally, the session will explain how to sign these estate planning documents along with traditional Wills and Trusts in the comfort of their own homes by taking advantage of Governor Cuomo’s Executive Orders that permit virtual witnessing and notarizations.

CLE credit may be available.
