Say what? First Amendment Challenges to State and Local Taxes
Thursday, September 26 | 9:05–9:55 a.m.
The session will address the First Amendment protections in the context of state and local taxes. The panel will explain the Supreme Court’s framework for applying the First Amendment to SALT cases. It specifically will discuss how the First Amendment's protections afforded the “press” and “speech” impacts general business and how to delineate commercial or other protected speech. Finally, the session will provide an update on First Amendment judicial developments. State constitutional analogues will be discussed, as well.
