Blank Rome State + Local Tax Partners Nicole L. Johnson and Mitchell A. Newmark will serve as panelists at the Council on State Taxation’s (“COST”) 2021 State Income Tax Webinar, which will be held April 26 through 29, 2021. Blank Rome LLP is pleased to be a sponsor of the program. 

The program will provide updates for multistate tax professionals with various levels of experience in state and local income/franchise taxes on key state and local tax (“SALT”) income and franchise tax issues and offer insights regarding state tax trends and opportunities.

Mitchell’s session, “Qualifying To Do Business In A State—How Does That Impact an Entity’s Tax Status?,” will take place on Tuesday, April 27, at 11:05 a.m. EST and the panel will examine some of the anticipated Biden administration federal tax reform proposals including corporate tax rate increases, expanded inclusion of foreign source income, capital gains tax increases, and estate tax changes. In particular, the panelists will focus on state tax conformity (or lack thereof) with the Biden federal tax reform proposals.

Nicole will speak on the “Tax Planning for Rapidly Changing Supply Chains and Business Models” panel on Thursday, April 29, at 3:05 p.m. EST. This session will discuss how many companies have recently encountered significant supply chain changes, shifted to a remote workforce operating model, and/or are still grappling with the state income tax impact of the TCJA and CARES Act, and look at common operating models and organizational structures, with a focus on state income tax issues resulting from repatriation and supply chain variations as well as nexus considerations in a remote workforce setting and offer practical ways to maintain a tax efficient structure in the current environment.
