The Blank Rome community stands with those affected by the devastating impact of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, and those in the path of other storms forming in the Atlantic Ocean. As the nation and the world mobilize to assist people and businesses affected by these storms, Blank Rome, which has offices in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Houston, has identified a number of ways to provide aid and services to the relief effort.
Blank Rome’s Severe Weather Emergency Response Team (“SWERT”) is here to help those impacted by these storms. Our team is led by Alan Rubin, a principal at Blank Rome Government Relations LLC and a national leader in the field of hurricane emergency management, including aiding federal and state recovery efforts after Hurricane Andrew and other severe storms, and John Heintz, a partner in Blank Rome’s Insurance Recovery Practice and a nationally recognized attorney with decades of experience dealing with insurance claims and carriers. They are joined by an interdisciplinary group of practitioners who have experience across industries and issues impacted by severe weather events. The team has developed helpful and practical preparedness checklists, lists of national, state, and local web and phone emergency response contacts, articles, and other materials for both individuals and businesses affected by the 2017 hurricane season, which can be found under Featured Resources.
Our SWERT checklists are immediately helpful to individuals who are preparing for and recovering from hurricane damage, including dealing with FEMA and insurance claims:
Our Houston colleagues have opened their homes to those in need in their communities, volunteering at the relief shelters at the NRG Center and the George R. Brown Convention Center as well as partnering with numerous churches and schools on clothing and school supplies drives. The Firm kicked off a Firm-wide fund drive to benefit the Greater Houston Community Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, and proudly matched the donations raised for the Fund. Our Pro Bono Program is also working to match attorneys from our offices across the country who have volunteered to provide legal assistance to those who are in need of support now and during the weeks ahead. We invite you to share this page and its resources with anyone who may be impacted by these storms. Our team has been interviewed by numerous media sources on the impacts of the 2017 hurricane season, and continues to share its guidance on how to prepare for and recover from these severe weather events in the coming weeks and months.
