Blank Rome Reaches Client Settlement In re Urethanes Antitrust Litigation

Blank Rome reached a final settlement agreement on behalf of the Firm’s clients in an opt-out plaintiff group against the Dow Chemical Company in the matter of In re Urethanes Antitrust Litigation.

The class plaintiff group first went to trial against Dow in 2013, accusing a number of chemical companies with fixing prices in the urethanes industry. All the companies settled, except Dow. Blank Rome represented 25 percent of the purchases within the class plaintiff group, opted out of that class, and went to trial against Dow on March 7, 2016, in Newark, NJ, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Earlier this year, the class settled with Dow for $835 million. In the midst of the opt-out trial, Dow settled with Blank Rome’s eleven families of companies for the sum of $400 million—representing 1.4 times the class settlement.
