Intellectual Property Basics for Nonprofits
D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center
April 28, 2017
Blank Rome Associates Gabriella E. Ziccarelli and Ji Young Park recently participated in the “Intellectual Property Basics for Nonprofits” legal clinic, hosted by the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center on April 28, 2017.
At this clinic, volunteer attorneys meet with nonprofits one-on-one to conduct an assessment of the organization’s basic needs with respect to intellectual property in areas such as copyrights, trademarks, and social media. Issues reviewed include:
- The nonprofit’s name and logos— have they been registered or otherwise protected?
- The organization's program materials—who prepared them, who owns them, what is the nonprofit doing to protect them?
- Does the nonprofit have any licensing agreements?
- The organization's website—does it comply with best practices with respect to legal issues?
