Legal Framework for Dealing with Piracy on the High Seas

Blank Rome Maritime is proud to be a sponsor of the 2011 World Maritime Day Observance and Coast Guard Mission Conference, held October 27-28, 2011, in Tampa, FL at the Marriott Tampa Waterside Hotel and Marina.

John D. Kimball, partner at Blank Rome, will be speaking on the "Legal Framework for Dealing with Piracy on the High Seas" on October 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. as part of the panel discussion on "Piracy: What are We Facing? Identifying the Challenges and Issues."  The panel will be moderated by Mr. Jeffrey Lantz, USCG, and Mr. Kimball will be joined by the following panelists on their topics:

  • "Guarding against Piracy," Kevin Doherty, Nexus Consulting
  • "Experiencing Piracy, What Shipowners Need," Joe Cox, Chamber of Shipping of America
  • "The Seafarer's Experience with Piracy," Roberto Giorgi, V.Ships

Following Mr. Kimball's panel discussion session, there will be another panel discussion from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The first day will conclude at 6:30 p.m. and be followed with a reception and dinner.

The conference will continue on October 28 with the Coast Guard Mission conference on stewardship, security, and safety.  Topics will include the role of the NGO, changing regulations, supply chain security, border protection, innovation technology and USCG changes, to name a few.
