International Maritime Law Conference: Shipping in the New Financial Era

Jeremy J.O. Harwood, partner at Blank Rome, will be the chair of the Maritime Arbitration panel at the International Maritime Law Conference: Shipping in the New Financial Era, held March 25-26 in Stamford, Connecticut.

Mr. Harwood's panel will be held on March 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and  will address the procedural and substantive issues arising in New York arbitrations. The panel will cover questions that arise regarding confidentiality and confidence in arbitration systems from a global perspective, as well as recognition and enforcement of arbitration awards both in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world.  He will be joined by a panel of speakers in the industry.

This conference, organized by the International Bar Association (IBA) Maritime and Transport Law Committee, and supported by the North American Regional Forum and the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA), will explore shipping in the new financial era and discuss how the financial crisis has affected the industry and what is being done to overcome the effects of the credit crunch.  It will include reviews of how shipowning companies have reorganized to meet the challenges arising from the new financial markets, and how capital for shipping can be raised today.  The conference will also include sessions on maritime arbitration and recent developments in maritime law around the world.
