Christie Brinkley’s Potential to Air Dirty Laundry to Public

Lois Liberman, a partner in Blank Rome’s matrimonial practice group in New York, discussed the recent details of actress Christie Brinkley’s public divorce of her fourth husband, architect Peter Cook.

Recently, Ms. Brinkley won her bid to keep her divorce trial open to the public—allowing her the chance to get even with her ex-husband, who fought to have the divorce closed. The case is already rumored to include allegations that Mr. Cook is a fan of web sites featuring pornographic content.

Mr. Cook, however, may not be the only one embarrassed if the specifics of his marriage reaches the public. “She’s hoping that somebody’s going to cave before they actually start the trial,” said Ms. Liberman. “The gamble is that if Cook does not cave in to whatever demands or whatever settlement  they’re offering, they’re going to end up starting the actual trial, and then all the dirty laundry is going to be aired.”

“It’s not just going to be his dirty laundry,” warned Ms. Liberman. “I don’t think she’s going to completely have clean hands here. But she’s basically gambling with her kids’ lives here, because they’re going to be privy to everything.”
